Genuine Scooters' first model was a 4-speed manual, two-stroke 150CC "Stella" model, manufactured by LML in India in 2002. The Stella was successful, and in 2006 the company began a relationship with PGO Scooters, a Taiwanese manufacturer. Genuine developed the "Buddy", an automatic scooter with a CVT.
The Stella features a 150 cc (9.2 cu in) two-stroke engine. Like "vintage" European scooters, it operates with a four-speed "twist-grip" manual transmission. Other traditional features include a steel frame, spare tire, and styling. The 2007 and 2008 models include better quality paint, grips, and a redesigned headlight.
Other common traits of scooters can include: bodywork (so the mechanicals are not exposed like a conventional motorcycle), motors combined with the suspension or wheel (rather than attached to the frame like a conventional motorcycle), leg shields, smaller wheels than a conventional motorcycle, and an alternative to a chain drive.
