Public housing in Brunei comprises government development programmes which aim to provide ownership of land or homes to the citizens of Brunei. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] They are managed by the Housing Development Department ( Malay : Jabatan Kemajuan Perumahan ), a government department under the Ministry of Development .
This is a list of public housing estates in Brunei.The list consists of housing estates under the current government housing programmes of the National Housing Scheme (Malay: Rancangan Perumahan Negara), including the Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme (Malay: Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati), as well as the former National Resettlement Scheme (Malay: Rancangan Perpindahan Negara).
In response to the increasing demand for housing, the Brunei Economic Development Board undertook three pilot projects to construct a total of 7,500 low-cost houses. The largest of these projects was located at Kampong Mengkubau, spanning 309 hectares (760 acres) and consisting of 4,000 houses.
