The first library director, Arthur E. Nelson, was appointed by Dr. Pfau in 1963. Nelson began accumulating materials in a local warehouse and by 1965 had 50,000 books to move into Sierra Hall, one of the first (multipurpose) buildings on the campus. In 1968, construction began on the current library building which was occupied in 1971.
California State University, San Bernardino was created by the state legislature on April 29, 1960, as the San Bernardino-Riverside State College. Later, the California State College system's board of trustees chose a 440-acre (180 ha) site in the city of San Bernardino.
The Santos Manuel Student Union leads into the heart of the CSUSB campus and is located near many buildings, including University Hall, the College of Education, the Student Health Center, and the Serrano Village dormitories in addition to being close to administrative services.

The California State University, San Bernardino College of Extended and Global Education is one of the several colleges of the California State University, San Bernardino, located on the third floor of the Center for Global Innovation building on the main university campus in the University District of San Bernardino, California.
The California State University - San Bernardino College of Arts & Letters provides liberal arts education at CSUSB. The college contains nineteen academic departments and a number of interdisciplinary programs, each of which is designed to help students understand their role in society and to develop aesthetic sensibilities.
In 1952, the state proposed a new satellite campus for Cal State LA, at the time known as Los Angeles State College, and in July 1958, the campus separated from Cal State LA and was renamed San Fernando Valley State College (now known as California State University, Northridge). [20]
