Magnolia Hall is an historic plantation located in the High Hills of Santee at 2025 Horatio-Hagood Road, Hagood, South Carolina. [2] [3] Its Greek Revival plantation house was built in 1821 by its owner Isaac Barnes. After Dr. Swepson Saunders bought the property in 1853, he added onto it in 1855 and 1860.
The mansion was built for the grandfather of John Drayton, John Drayton Sr. (c. 1715 –1779; son of Thomas and Ann Drayton) after he bought the property in 1738. [7] As the third son in his family, he knew he was unlikely to inherit his own nearby birthplace, now called Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens (464 acres, 187.77 hectares) is a historic house with gardens located on the Ashley River at 3550 Ashley River Road west of Ashley, Charleston County, South Carolina. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It is one of the oldest plantations in the South, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
The Magnolia Lobby was designed to resemble a grand Southern mansion with an impressive staircase and a Tiffany-style chandelier. [ 4 ] Between 1983 and 1984 the hotel was expanded, adding over 400 guest rooms and incorporating facilities to meet the demands of the corporate meeting and convention market.
