These are very useful for a dynamic online encyclopedia and save users from having to regularly update that kind of information. However, when using this kind of template, a few things should be kept in mind.
If it is presently June 2025, we do not know whether the person has had their birthday this year yet since their day of birth is unknown. Therefore, the template displays their birth year and age as: 1970 (age 54–55). If it is presently December 2025, then this year the person has already had their birthday.
Note: The template may not calculate the age correctly if a full date (month, day, year) is not provided. For example, a person who was born in 1941 could be either 83 or 84, depending on whether they have reached their birthday in the current year: {{Birth-date and age|1941}} → 1941 () (age 84)
