Ten years after the war for the Mini-Cons and the apparent destruction of Unicron, the mysterious Alpha Q (which stands for "Quintesson"), operating out of the husk of the planet-eater's body, releases energy-eating Terrorcons to attack the Autobots' Cybertron Cities in the Solar system, gathering Energon for Alpha Q's plan.
Escaping from the volcano, the Autobots believe they won, unaware that the planet-sized Transformer Unicron has arrived on Cybertron. As Unicron begins destroying Cybertron, Optimus, Red Alert and Hot Shot return home alongside all the rescued Mini-Cons, whose combined powers give the three Autobots the means to stop Unicron.
On Velocitron, Hot Shot is still trying to control his handling. Investigating Earth's ruins in the hope of finding out more about Atlantis and the Omega Lock, the Autobots head out to the Sahara Desert. There, Megatron destroys Vector Prime's Mini-Con friends, causing him to reveal his time turning abilities to save them.
Eventually, however, the Mini-Cons fled Cybertron in a starship, which warped into the Solar system and crashed on Earth.
