Alpine Valley Ski Area is a ski resort located in Munson Township, Geauga County, in the U.S. state of Ohio, east of Chesterland.It was built in 1965 under the direction of Thomas D. Apthorp, who then continued to operate and manage the resort until 2007. [1]
The resort lies off U.S. Route 33 east of the city of Bellefontaine. It is located 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of Campbell Hill, Ohio's highest point, and it is near the source of the Mad River. The resort's iconic bar venue called 'The Loft' caught fire on September 16, 2015, and was considered a total loss. [5]

Due to its location at the top of the ridgeline, Valley Hi contains only a few winding streets. Moreover, it is not as easily accessed as some nearby towns, as the only road into the village is County Road 291. The nearest highway is U.S. Route 33, which is accessed by an interchange less than a mile from the village.
Today, a ski resort named Mad River Mountain is located near the stream's source. Mad River is the largest coldwater fishery in Ohio. [citation needed] The Ohio Department of Natural Resources's Division of Wildlife periodically stocks Mad River with rainbow trout and brown trout. [9]
