The Garfield County Frontier Fairgrounds, near Burwell, Nebraska, also known as Burwell Rodeo Ground, is a historic property with significance dating to 1922.A 40-acre (16 ha) area was listed as a historic district on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
Burwell is host to "Nebraska's Big Rodeo", an annual event usually held the last weekend of July. This has been an important event for the town's economy and has been a staple for over 80 years. Burwell was one of the initial FFA chapters of the state of Nebraska. The chapter was chartered March 1929.

Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park is a state park located six miles (9.7 km) southeast of Burwell, Nebraska, preserving a typical U.S. Army cavalry outpost of the late 19th century. Fort Hartsuff was active from 1874 to 1881.
