Weik was born in Greencastle, Indiana.His father emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1848; his mother was a native of Cincinnati.His education, begun in the public schools of Greencastle, was completed at Indiana Asbury College (now DePauw University), in Greencastle, where he received an A.B. in 1875 and a Master of Arts in 1883.
One such critic was Justin Ewers, a senior editor at U.S. News & World Report, who reviewed the book for The Washington Post, and noted: "Of course, Lincoln's presidency had its dark side... Still, DiLorenzo's work is more of a diatribe against a mostly unnamed group of Lincoln scholars than a real historical analysis." [3]
