Annual harvests vary greatly, but from 1987 to 2001, 1.04 million pounds of marine catfishes (including both the hardhead catfish and the gafftopsail catfish) were harvested in the IRL region. The largest recorded weight for a gafftopsail catfish is 4.54 kg (10.0 lb) [4] and 69 cm (27 in) in length.
