Clark Reservation State Park is a state park in Onondaga County, New York. The park is in Jamesville, NY, in the Town of DeWitt , south of Syracuse . It was the site of a large waterfall formed by melting glacial ice at the end of the last Ice Age ; the plunge basin at the base of the old falls is now a small lake.
The Trinity Unit, centered on Trinity Lake and Lewiston Lake, has four subunits: the Lewiston Lake, Trinity Dam, Stuart Fork, and North Lake Units.They offer many opportunities for recreation, including trout fishing in Lewiston Lake, scenic driving on the Trinity Heritage National Scenic Byway, picnicking, camping, and hiking/riding on the multi-use trail system.
There are camping facilities located inside the park. Potawatomi Campground, offers Class A amenities with 110 sites and two Rent-a-Cabins in a wooded setting. The Chippewa Campground, offers 105 sites with Class B electric and C facilities. Reservations are taken for Kankakee River Class A, B, and C campgrounds.
The property was originally preserved by Dr. Joel Goldthwait in the 1920s, who donated the original parcels to The Trustees of the Reservations in 1942. Additional land acquired by other donors from 1946 through 1983 through more than ten gifts. Rocky Woods reservation in Medfield once had a rope tow ski area near Chickering Pond. [3]
Luzerne County began to cut funding for the park in the late 2000s. In 2007, Luzerne County budgeted $575,000 for Moon Lake Park. [16] By 2011, funding had dwindled to $119,626. The swimming pool, public restrooms, and Nature Education Center closed in 2009. [17] Campgrounds closed in 2010.
