Walsgrave-on-Sowe in the early 1900s, showing the higher wall around the graveyard of St Mary's that was removed in 1951. A Norman chapel was built at the site in Sowe sometime after 1086. The first known mention of the chapel is in 1221, and St Mary's church is its successor.
It was turned into a Woolworths almost immediately in the same year. The retail unit was soon split up into a Matalan (Which closed in 2019) and a B&M Bargains. The Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital was a former hospital in Coventry, England, on Stoney Stanton Road on the northern edge of the city centre. The hospital was opened in 1867 and closed in 2006, to be replaced by the new University Hospital Coventry sited about 4 miles (6.4 km) north east of the centre.

The Walsgrave, and Coventry and Warwickshire Hospitals were replaced by a new 'super hospital' at the Walsgrave site which was procured under a private finance initiative (PFI) contract in 2002. The new hospital was designed by Nightingale Associates [5] and built by Skanska at a cost of £440 million. [6]
