The W/T 1500 (W/T stands for Work Truck) was a de-contented version of the Cheyenne marketed primarily for work use and was only available with the 4.3L V6, regular cab, and 8' bed (a 6.5' Fleetside bed was later available); the 454SS combined elements of the Sport Equipment Package with the 7.4L V8 of 3500-series trucks.

The Limited trim would not debut until 2018. The trucks were available with a two-door Regular Cab, four-door SuperCab, or four-door Crew Cab (the F-450, in pickup truck configuration, was only available in this configuration until the 2019 model year with the addition of the regular cab), with short (6' 9") and long (8') bed lengths.
A wide variety of body options were available: the 2–3 passenger 2-door regular cab and the 5–6 passenger 3-door SuperCab (4-door after 1999 MY), 8 ft (2.4 m) and 6.5 ft (2.0 m) beds, and a choice of Styleside or Flareside beds on 6.5 ft (2.0 m) models.
Although regular cab models with a 6.5-foot (2.0 m) bed and in higher trim levels actually are produced, they are only available for sale in Mexico and the Middle East. Starting in 2022, regular cab models with a 6.5-foot (2.0 m) bed were made available in the United States and Canada, albeit only in WT trim and with the 2.7L L4 engine.
