The Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Korle Bu (NMTC Korle-Bu), the premier institution in Ghana for nursing education, is located in Korle Bu in Greater Accra. [1] The establishment of the college in 1945 was supervised by Agnes Yewande Savage, West Africa's first woman doctor.

Kumasi Nursing and Midwifery Training College was founded in 1957 by the Medical Mission Sisters of the Kumasi Church. [4] The school offers two Basic Diploma Programs, Nursing and midwifery.
The plan to set up a medical school on the Gold Coast was drawn up after the establishment of the Korle Bu Hospital in 1919 at the time, Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg. [1] [2] The idea was abandoned after Guggisberg left office. [1] [2] There was renewed interest in this venture in 1951.
Korle-Bu gained teaching hospital status in 1962, when the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) was established for the training of medical doctors. The University of Ghana Medical School and five other constituent schools are now subsumed under the College of Health Sciences to train an array of health professionals.
A Pharmacy Department was established in January 1953, with the transfer of the former School of Pharmacy from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, to the college. [16] The department ran a two-year comprehensive course in Pharmacy leading to the award of the Pharmacy Board Certificate. [ 17 ]
