The foundation stone for the college Main Building was laid on 13 October 1959 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. It was declared open on 21 November 1968 by Sri. K Brahmananda Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. From the year 1977–78, the names of BE and ME were changed as B.Tech. and M.Tech.
M.Tech intake is 36 and the MBA is 60. The College name as was renamed in loving memory of our beloved "Father of Gudlavalleru Engineering College", Sri V. V. R. Seshadri Rao. AICTE accorded approval to rename our college as SESHADRI RAO GUDLAVALLERU ENGINEERING COLLEGE with effect from the Academic Year 2021-22.
The Andhra University College of Engineering was established in 1955 as the Department of Engineering by Prof. Devaguptapu Seethapathi Rao (Electrical) and Prof. Kalavapudi Krishnamacharyulu (Civil Engineering) under the administrations of Vice Chancellor V.S. Krishna and further support by Vice Chancellor A L Narayana.
