On February 1, 1870, the Quebec provincial government created the Police provinciale du Québec [10] under the direction of its first commissioner, Judge Pierre-Antoine Doucet. This new service took over the headquarters of the Quebec City municipal police, which were then disbanded, although the city relaunched a municipal service in 1877.
The Ministry of Public Security (French: Ministère de la Sécurité publique) is responsible for public safety and security in the province of Quebec. The ministry is in charge of the Sûreté du Québec , the provincial police force.

The RCMP "C" Division is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police division responsible for federal policing in the Province of Quebec.Approximately 1,500 police officers, civilian members and public servants work to a number of different lines of effort, including financial integrity, national and border security, and organized crime enforcement.
The Sûreté nationale, or Sûreté, began as the criminal investigative bureau of the Préfecture de police de Paris (Paris Police Prefecture) and did not function as the national command and control organization until much later, by which time it no longer had any detectives on its staff.
