Semester at Sea (SaS) is a study-abroad program founded in 1963 and managed by the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) [1] in Fort Collins, Colorado. Colorado State University is the current academic sponsor [ 1 ] and the program is conducted on a cruise ship.

The ship had conducted a single semester at sea from February to May 1996 and began a pleasure cruise, not related to the Semester at Sea program, from Vancouver to Alaska on July 23, 1996. On July 27, 1996, after rounding retreat point in the Lynn Canal , Alaska, a fire broke out in the laundry room around 3 AM.

During Spring of 2020 (yes you read that correctly) I took a leap of faith and went on a ship with over 600 strangers for one heck of a Semester at Sea.
Sea Education Association (SEA) is a private, nonprofit educational organization. Founded in 1971 by Corwith Cramer, Jr. [1] SEA operates two sailing ships traveling throughout both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. SEA is based on Cape Cod in the oceanographic research community of Woods Hole, Massachusetts. [2]
Blue Dream Star was a Liberia-registered passenger ship.The ship was built in Germany in 2001 by Blohm + Voss and originally named Olympia Explorer.The ship was later renamed Explorer when it began sailing for the Semester at Sea program in 2004 and remained with them until 2015.
The University of Virginia's Semester at Sea study-abroad program contracted Darrah from 1989 through 2008 to produce approximately 40 two-hour video programs, documenting the around-the-world voyages of Semester at Sea.
