The National Middle Schools' Forum (NMSF) is a national education association dedicated exclusively to the promotion and support of middle schools in England. [ 1 ] The organisation was first formed in 1991 as the Inter-Lea Middle Schools' Forum .
The NMSC uses the PSAT/NMSQT as the initial screen of over 1.5 million program entrants. In the spring of the junior year, NMSC determines a national Selection Index qualifying score (critical reading + math + writing skills scores all multiplied by two) for "Commended" recognition, which is calculated each year to yield students at about the 96th percentile (top 50,000 highest scorers).
The cutoff scores for each group are not entirely rigid, as some students are moved between groups at the beginning of the program. However, the cutoffs do dictate who is invited to the program. More information can be founded in the Selection Process section above.
In order to be eligible to take the USAMO, a participant must be either a U.S. citizen or a legal resident of the United States or Canada. [1] Only US citizens and permanent residents could be invited to the USAMO until 2003, [2] other students legally residing in the US can be invited since 2004. [3]
