It is the truth! I have spent more than 75,000 points towards sweepstakes on Microsoft Rewards. Here is my experience. First. Microsoft is the richest company in the world! With over 3 TRILLION market cap. Next is Apple w/ a 2.8 TRILLION market cap. *Sweepstake will say, ends on such and such date.
Your chances of winning are always small but sweepstakes are legitimate. People do win. You'd likely be way better off doing surveys online or something else that's guaranteed to pay though. I enter sweepstakes because I genuinely enjoy it. It's like playing the lottery for free. I get a kick out of the silly prizes.
Yes, people win. They have to. There are rules and anyone running a contest can get in big trouble if they don't follow through. It's not strange that you can't find an example in which somebody actually won because there are thousands and thousands of people who enter these.
I won a 1,500 dollar laptop last year. I was convinced it was a scam for like a month. Kept calling them and going into support chats, but it turned out to be real. This post made me go try to win one, and after about 40 tries on the instant win scratches, I just won a Harmon kardon invoke speaker.

He had a cause to celebrate but Rosalind Guthrie has cause to warn you, so listen up. “I`m calling to let you know that you are the second prize winner in our big sweepstakes for $2.5 million,” said Guthrie.
It really helps out when those get completed. And if you mention your servers, cashiers, etc by name, they typically win prizes, get raises, and not to mention a huge pat on the back. Now it's been a while since we've offered a free beef and cheddar sandwich for survey completion, and the backs of our receipts don't even promote the surveys ...
I couldnt find any info on recent number of entries for any particular MS sweepstake, when I have considered entering surface book sweepstake. Unlike lotto, winners are picked from submitted entries (except scratch and win). So unless there is a concrete info on the number of entries, no one cannot compute your chance of winning.
Short Answer: Don't. Long Answer: You will never win. The odds of winning, if only 20% of MSR users play in a sweepstakes (and from how many posts I've seen online that number is way low) are so incredibly miniscule you are not going to win. This is like the Lottery in most jurisdictions.
