Pacific Bell Directory's listings compilation division was merged with Southwestern Bell Advertising, L.P., forming SBC Advertising, L.P. It was renamed in 2006 to the current AT&T Advertising, L.P. Pacific Bell Directory still exists today to serve as the directory publisher of the AT&T Real Yellow Pages for Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell customers.
Telephone numbers to the company also were cleverly named; if customers sought to order more telephone books, they called 1-800-SWB-BOOK; for the advertising side, 1-800-4SWBYPS. In 1995, Southwestern Bell Corporation changed its name to SBC Communications .
The two companies had already been partners for the wireless phone service Cingular. Each company had its own online Yellow Pages: BellSouth owned RealPages.com and SBC owned SmartPages.com. The two sites effectively merged into the newly acquired YellowPages.com. In 2005, SBC acquired AT&T and took on the stronger AT&T brand. [5]
On December 29, 2006, AT&T added BellSouth Advertising & Publishing Corporation, or "BAPCO" to its roster of directory publishers. As a result, in January 2007, all companies who had been doing business as AT&T Yellow Pages started doing business as AT&T Advertising & Publishing, while the AT&T Yellow Pages name was retained.
