842. Posted August 21, 2008. Linda: SUV is the abbreviation for "standardized uptake value," which is based on the amount of metabolic activity resulting from the pre-scan injection of irradiated sugar. My first PET scan in 01/07 showed my 5 cm. tumor had an SUV of 14.4, which was described by radiologist as "intense" hypermetabolic activity.
The PET shows differences in consumption (uptake). SUVs below 2.0 are normal. SUVs above 2.0 are suspect but between 2.0 and 4.0, uptake could be from injury or inflammation. Readings above 4.0 tend to be cancer but there can be other explanations. Higher than 4.0 is likely cancer, especially when paired with a CT find.
US. Status: Lung cancer patient/survivor. Posted April 6, 2021. Robb, " Sampled SUV max of physiologic hepatic activity: 3.7. " Meaning: SUV of 2 or less is considered normal cellular metabolism (not cancer). SUVs between 2 and 4 could be metabolic disease (cancer) but SUVs in this range can be caused by inflammation, irritation or infection.
The PET scan shows the initial tumor with a standard uptake level of 24.8 and a secondary tumor in same lung with SUV of 20.8. It also stated "hypodense area seen in left temporal lobe with diminished activity anterior to this is increased activity with standard uptake value of 7.3.
I've seen the report of my husband's PET scan (but not the CT). Overall, his SUVs (Standardized Uptake Value) are down (average 6 to 4.9). Does SUV measure the intensity? and what does that mean exactly? Size of mets doesn't appear to have changed and I'm wondering what the overall impact of redu...
My friend has SCLC and he is still smoking and this I do not under stand. I saw him the other day and he is still smoking. I know that he has had a tough time but maybe if he stoped smoking he could give his lungs a chance to clear up. Please let me know if anyone is still smoking and if so why. Does it not matter? thank you, Edward C[/b]
If nothing showed on the PET/CT except for the known problems how does an SUV of 24 of the lung tumor and 19 of the lymph node make sense? From what I’ve read, numbers that high mean metastatic and very aggressive. I would think if that is the case I would be a lot worse
English please 😉 Hypermetabolic, irregular subpleural nodule in the right upper lobe (SUV 5.8, 13mm) What does hypermetabolic mean? SUV = Standardized uptake value: The amount of tracer that was absorbed The number is 5.8 but can anyone tell me what the range is or how I might be able to find a c...
My PET/CT report reads small volume pleural effusion now seen. What does that mean and how do they treat that? I read that it could be malignant fluid and that means it’s spreading? No new hot spots. Other than that there’s more shrinkage and less SUV. Still not NED. I don’t see oncologist until Thursday and I’m worried.
I believe the statement consistent for local recurrence implies the nodule SUV was at 1.3 on a previous scan and is now 6.3. While the SUV was low on the previous scan, the nodule itself did not disappear so perhaps that is why the term local recurrence is used. PET results are difficult to understand.
