Starting in 1927, John D. Rockefeller Jr. purchased much of the land in Jackson Hole for the creation of Jackson Hole National Monument and the expansion of Grand Teton National Park. But he retained the 3,100-acre (1,300 ha) JY Ranch as a family retreat. [1]
The district consists of a line of homestead complexes along the Jackson-Moran Road near the southeast corner of Grand Teton National Park, in the valley called Jackson Hole. The rural historic landscape's period of significance includes the construction of the Andy Chambers, T.A. Moulton and John Moulton farms from 1908 to the 1950s.
The resort complex was built over the site of the Amoretti Hotel and Camp Company's Jackson Lake Lodge, built by Eugene Amoretti of Lander, Wyoming from 1922. Amoretti's lodge, boasting the first hot and cold running water in the valley, featured guest cabins and tent cabins.
In 1929 Stanley and Helen's twelve-year-old son Stanley Rogers Resor spent part of the summer in Jackson Hole with the Huyler family, who had bought a ranch on the Snake River. The younger Stanley's enthusiasm about his experience led his father to buy 400 acres (160 ha) of land, sight unseen.
While the charming ski town boasts many luxury hotels, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole is the only ski-in/ski-out property located just steps from Bridger and Sweetwater Gondola.
