Elk Mountain is a town in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 150 at the 2020 census . The town shares its name with a mountain 7 miles (11 km) to its southwest.
Elk Mountain is located in a public landlocked parcel which became the center of federal lawsuit against four hunters from Missouri in 2022. The fort was located on the northeast side of Elk Mountain at an altitude of about 7800 feet. At the time, the area around the fort was well watered and well stocked with game.
