Ster-Kinekor is a South African-based cinema company, and the country's largest movie exhibitor. It represents 60-65% of the market, having 32 cinema complexes consisting of 342 large-scale screens and 47 961 seats; 124 state-of-the-art 3D screens across the country (Commercial, 3D, IMAX, D-BOX, Kids’ Cinema, Nouveau and Cine Prestige) with 129 in South Africa.
In 1999, the company was moved to Ster-Kinekor Home Entertainment until 2007 after CIC Video was dissolved in the same year. In 2008, it was moved later to Nu Metro Home Entertainment on DVDs until 2013, when Next Entertainment took over until 2019.
Established in 1996, the company was a spin-off from the South African cinema chain, Ster-Kinekor. Ster Century's first cinema was opened in 1998 in partnership with Assos Odeon, a cinema company based in Greece, under the name Ster Odeon. In 1999 Ster Century opened its first cinemas under its own brand.

Nu Metro Cinemas currently operates 21 cineplexes in South Africa, making it the second-largest cinema operator in the country, after Ster-Kinekor Theatres. The first film to feature digital audio at Nu Metro was Jurassic Park , in 1993, which played at Bedford Cinema 2 in DTS .
