The Croatan National Forest (/ ˈ k r oʊ ə t æ n /) [3] is a U.S. National Forest, was established on July 29, 1936, and is located on the Atlantic coast of North Carolina. It is administered by the United States Forest Service , a part of the United States Department of Agriculture .

The park reserve is protected and visitors are restricted to designated trails. Inside the reserve is the Visibaba botanical reserve, with an abundance of the endemic Croatian subspecies of Sibiraea altaiensis, and the Zavižan–Balinovac–Velika kosa botanical reserve, famous for its outstanding collection of mountain flora species.
