Burnet (/ ˈ b ɜːr n ɪ t / BUR-nit) is a city in and the county seat of Burnet County, Texas, United States. [4] Its population was 6,436 at the 2020 census. [5]Both the city and the county were named for David Gouverneur Burnet, the first (provisional) president of the Republic of Texas.
It is about 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Burnet, the county seat, and 57 miles (92 km) northwest of downtown Austin. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 0.54 square miles (1.4 km 2 ), of which 0.42 square miles (1.1 km 2 ) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km 2 ), or 19.60%, is water.
