The Jersey Journal was a daily newspaper, published from Monday through Saturday, covering news and events throughout Hudson County, New Jersey. The Journal is a sister paper to The Star-Ledger of Newark, The Times of Trenton and the Staten Island Advance, all of which are owned by Advance Publications, which bought the paper in 1945.
Written by Edward Le Brocq (1877–1964), who had worked for the Evening Post before becoming editor of the Morning News, they took the form of a letter to the editor supposedly written by an old farming couple from St. Ouen commenting on personalities, events and elections laced with humorous observations on Jersey history and traditions.
Perkins was born on September 20, 1884, in New York City, to Elizabeth (Evarts) Perkins, a daughter of William M. Evarts, and Edward Clifford Perkins, a lawyer. [1] He grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, attended St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and then graduated from Harvard College in 1907.
