Flatmates is a British coming of age comedy drama series broadcast on BBC iPlayer and starring Tallulah Greive, Theo Stevenson and Richard Wisker reprising their roles from the CBBC series Millie Inbetween, although the series is intended for a much older audience. A total of six series were made, along with a Christmas special, and three final episodes that make up the feature-length "last orders". Each episode follows the lives of flatmates Gary Strang (Martin Clunes) and Tony Smart (Neil Morrissey) - except series 1, in which Dermot Povey (Harry Enfield) is Gary's flatmate.
It was revealed in January 2020 that 42 had picked up the rights to adapt Beth O'Leary's novel. The adaptation was at the time in development with the BBC. [4] In January 2022, Paramount+ officially commissioned the six-part series, marking the platform's first British comedy. [5]
The show focused on four female flatmates and their landlady. It was a female version of The Young Ones, two series of which were made in 1982 and 1984. French and Saunders had both appeared in The Young Ones and, like most of its stars, were members of The Comic Strip.
