Angas Memorial in Angas Gardens, a tribute to the memory of the colonists George Fife Angas and John Howard Angas. Park 12, (also referred to by its Kaurna name Karrawirra, meaning "river red gum forest") [1] is one of the 29 parks that make up the Adelaide Park Lands.
The park was named after Sir Arthur Rymill, Lord Mayor of Adelaide from 1950 to 1954 and council member for 23 years, who had actively supported the extension and improvement of Adelaide’s parklands. [1] The lake was constructed in 1959 and the rose gardens were created in the 1960s by excavating what was then the Bartels Road rubbish tip. [7]
The park was acquired by the adjacent Adelaide Botanic Garden in 1866, [1] and was formerly used as the venue for the Royal Adelaide Show from 1844 to 1859.
