State Route 165 (SR 165) is an east to west secondary highway in Monroe County, Tennessee, United States that is 23.8 miles (38.3 km) long.It is the Tennessee portion of the Cherohala Skyway which runs through Cherokee National Forest and connects Tellico Plains with Robbinsville, North Carolina.
The Cherohala Skyway is a 43-mile (69 km) National Scenic Byway and National Forest Scenic Byway that connects Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Robbinsville, North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. Its name is a portmanteau of Cherokee and Nantahala, the two national forests through which it passes.
The trail began in Tennessee at Tellico Blockhouse on the Federal Road near Nine Mile Creek in present-day Vonore. [2] It entered the mountains in Unicoi Gap on its way east to present-day Murphy, North Carolina, and followed the Hiwassee River toward Hayesville, before turning south towards present-day Hiawassee, Georgia, and entering Georgia's Unicoi Gap.

Additional work was supported by the Fort Loudoun Association and the Tennessee Division of Archaeology in the 1970s and 1980s. The fort was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965. It was moved and reconstructed above the water levels of Tellico Lake, created in 1979. It is now the focus of Fort Loudoun State Historic Park.
Tellico Plains was incorporated in 1911. [9] Its first mayor was Columbus Jenkins, father of a noted attorney, Ray Jenkins. [10] Tellico Plains is home to the Charles Hall Museum. [11] The town is also the eastern terminus of the Trans America Trail, [12] a popular OHV route to Oregon and the Pacific Ocean.
