Tecumseh is a census-designated place (CDP) in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States, [1] and situated along the Kansas River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 696. [2] The community and township are both named for the Shawnee chief. [3] [4] Tecumseh is part of the Topeka, Kansas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Tecumseh Township was one of the two original townships formed in 1855, and it originally extended over all the county south of the Kansas River to the Wakarusa River. [8] The other, Yocum Township, named after county commissioner William Yocum, contained the area south of the Wakarusa River.
