Lake Jodeco was the first of the two lakes created by Dr. Spivey. The two lakes are separated by Jodeco Road which sits on a causeway and a small bridge. Outflows from Lake Jodeco enter Lake Spivey at the bridge. The outflows continue over the Lake Spivey dam spillway and into Rum Creek in Henry County, Georgia.
Just beyond 19th Street, US 36 turns to the southeast on a four-lane divided alignment paralleling a railroad, exiting Decatur on the southeast side. The road crosses Lake Decatur and narrows to two lanes before turning due east. After turning east, U.S. 36 runs largely in a straight line, mostly through open country, until it exits the state.

The northern section of Mead Road was annexed by the City of Decatur in 1907, but the Town of Oakhurst was not annexed into the City of Decatur until 1914–1916.
