The 2023 Niger State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Niger State, concurrent with elections to the Niger State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly.

Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu was elected executive governor of Niger State in April 2007, running under the platform of People's Democratic Party (PDP) . His election was disputed by late Jibrin Bala Guna Alhassan, a rival candidate for the PDP nomination, but the suit was rejected by the Federal High Court in Abuja in December 2007. [11]

In 2007, he contested for the Niger State House of Assembly and in 2011, he contested for the House of Representatives' seat under the now defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). [2] In 2015, he was elected as the deputy governor candidate under the All Progressives Congress during the 2015 gubernatorial election [ 2 ] and re-elected in 2019.
