Alpine Meadows is a ski resort in the western United States, located in Alpine Meadows, California. Near the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe, it offers 2,400 acres (9.7 km 2) of skiable terrain, 13 different lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,802 feet (549 m). The 1960 Winter Olympics were held in and around the nearby Squaw Valley Ski Resort. The biathlon and cross-country skiing events took place in what is now the state park. The resort has 11 chairlifts and two surface lifts covering 2,400 acres (970 ha) of terrain. Alpine has a vertical drop of 1,800 ft (550 m) with a top elevation of 8,637 ft (2,633 m). Minimal accommodations are available at the resort itself, so most people opt for a hotel at Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, Donner Pass, or Truckee.
