The vice-president was Namibia's former president Hage Geingob, who was elected to that position in 2007 and reconfirmed at the SWAPO congress in December 2012, until his death on 4 February 2024. The third highest position in SWAPO is the secretary-general, a position held in December 2012 by Nangolo Mbumba.
The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is a political party in Namibia. It was launched on 17 November 2007 under the leadership of Hidipo Hamutenya and Jesaya Nyamu, both former leading members of the ruling SWAPO party and cabinet ministers. Hamutenya had unsuccessfully sought the SWAPO nomination for President in 2004.
The party received 220,809 votes (20.2%) of the national vote, and gained 20 seats in the Parliament of Namibia. It became the second strongest parliamentary party, behind SWAPO . Furthermore, Panduleni Itula , as their presidential candidate, received 284,106 votes (25.84%) nationally, placing him in second position behind Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah .
