Sunbury-on-Thames Urban District These two urban districts had been part of Middlesex prior to 1965, when they had been transferred to Surrey on the creation of Greater London. [ 4 ] The new district was named after the medieval hundred of Spelthorne, which had covered the area plus adjoining parts of modern Greater London.
