Genesis were formed by lead singer Peter Gabriel, keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist / guitarist Mike Rutherford, guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer Chris Stewart at the Charterhouse School, where they drew on contemporary pop, soul, classical and church music influences to write their own songs.
