The Oak Ridge Golf Club merged with the Walkerville Club and the name was changed to the "Essex County Golf & Country Club." The nine-hole course was open for play in the spring of 1912 and was in use until the fall of 1914 when, additional land having been procured, an 18-hole course was built.
Beckett Ridge is located in southeastern Butler County, in the west-central part of West Chester Township. It is centered on the Beckett Ridge Golf Club, occupying high ground to the north of the valley of Mill Creek. Interstate 75 cuts across the southeast corner of the CDP, with the closest access from Exit 19 (Union Centre Boulevard).

The Ohio Open is the Ohio state open golf tournament, open to both amateur and professional golfers. It is organized by the Northern Ohio section of the PGA of America . It was first played in 1924 and has been played annually (with minor disruptions) at a variety of courses around the state.
