William "Geoffrey" Thompson OBE (16 November 1936 – 12 June 2004) [1] was a British businessman who was the managing director and owner of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Pleasureland Southport and Frontierland, Morecambe. He rose to his position in 1976 after the death of his father, Leonard Thompson.
Thompson was born in Wellington on 11 June 1940. He received his education at Waterloo and Silverstream primary schools, Hutt Valley High School , Horowhenua College and Wellington College . He attended Victoria University of Wellington and graduated LL.M. in 1966.

Thompson was born in 1929. [1] He started playing cue sports on a scaled-down table aged eight or nine, and on a full-sized billiard table from the age of 13. After serving in the armed forces, Thompson won a local English billiards competition in his home town of Leicester, and was runner-up in the 1952 CIU snooker championship to L.F. Taylor.
