The 3rd Cavalry Regiment, formerly 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Brave Rifles") [2] is a regiment of the United States Army currently stationed at Fort Cavazos, Texas.. The regiment has a history in the United States Army that dates back to 19 May 1846, when it was constituted in the Regular Army as the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
The first military guards at "The Tomb" were troopers from the 3rd Cavalry, "Brave Rifles", who were posted nearby on Fort Myer. Since April 6, 1948, (known then as "Army Day"), when the regiment was reactivated, it has been guarded by soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard".
In December 2008 the GREYWOLF Troopers deployed to Iraq for their third tour. On 19 January 2009, they assumed control of FOB Marez in Mosul from the "Brave Rifles" of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. As during their last Iraq rotation the Greywolf Brigade were once again under the 25th Infantry Division and MND-N. [4]
As a lieutenant colonel from 2007 to 2009, he served as the squadron commander of 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment in the 1st Infantry Division. During this command the squadron deployed to northwest Baghdad from 2008 to 2009. In 2011, he assumed command as the 74th Colonel of the 3d Cavalry Regiment (Brave Rifles) at Fort Hood, Texas.
