Youse's Maryland Orioles were founded in 1952 by the Leone Family of Baltimore Maryland. Although the team has changed name and management on several occasions since then, it has been in continuous operation. The team currently competes in both the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League and the All America Amateur Baseball Association ("AAABA"). [1]
As of 2011 the team had sold out every home game at Ripken Stadium since it began playing there in 2002. [7] [8] The stadium is part of Cal Ripken Jr.'s Aberdeen Complex in his hometown of Aberdeen, Maryland, located just off Interstate 95 at Maryland Route 22. Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium is only 2.9 miles off the East Coast Greenway.
On July 15, 2009, teams of all-stars from the CRSCBL and the Valley Baseball League, a collegiate wooden-bat league based in Virginia, met to play a game dubbed the Mid-Atlantic Classic in Waldorf, Maryland. The Ripken League prevailed, 2–1. [6] A planned 2010 rematch was rained out.
They also hosted the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 18, 2015. [2] Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium was also used for the Cal Ripken World Series in 2003 and 2004, forcing the team to go on extended road trips, 20 or more games, during the youth competition. The Cal Ripken World Series moved across the street to Cal Sr.'s Yard in 2005.
