State Excise Academy & Research Centre (SEARC) is situated in Poothole in Thrissur city, Kerala, India. The academy trains the entire staff of the Kerala Excise Department, and provides centralized training for Kerala State Excise personnel. It also runs basic training and in-service courses for various ranks.
Earlier, Fort Kochi based institute trained firemen for the Kerala Fire Department. On 4 June 2007, the then Chief Minister of Kerala V. S. Achuthanandan inaugurated the new academy. The academy is situated near the Central Prison, Viyyur in eight acres of land. Training for new firemen was started on 22 October 2007.

In 1991, the college shifted to the new campus. After the shifting of the college, it started three new Post-Graduate courses of History, Economics and English in 1995, 1996 and 1998 respectively. In the year 1997, which was its Silver Jubilee year, the college was renamed Sri. C Achutha Menon Govt. College, after the late Chief Minister.
