As its designation implies, it connects the SR 39 mainline near Florence Marina State Park with US 27/SR 1 and SR 1 Connector in Lumpkin. The route passes through Providence Canyon State Park.

SR 62 travels in a northeasterly direction, through rural areas of Early County, toward Blakely. About 2 miles (3.2 km) after starting, it intersects the northern terminus of SR 370 near Hilton. Just after entering Blakely, SR 62 has an intersection with SR 62 Bypass before going to downtown Blakely.
Early County was chartered in 1818 and Blakely was established as the county seat in 1825. [5] Early County's first courthouse was a log building, first used in 1827. [2] That building was sold for $13 and moved, making way for the second courthouse. That two-story wooden structure was built in 1834. [2]
