The name erythema toxicum neonatorum was first used by Dr. Karl Leiner in 1912 because he believed that the rash was caused by enterotoxins. PUPPP most commonly presents as a rash that starts within the stretch marks. Very few people experiencing PUPPP have reported the rash spreading to the face, palms of hands, or soles of feet. [3] [6]
They range in size from 0.5–8 cm (0.20–3.15 in). The lesions sometimes increase size and spread over time and may not be complete rings but irregular shapes. Distribution is usually on the thighs and legs but can also appear on the upper extremities, areas not exposed to sunlight, trunk or face.
