The Chevening Scholarship is an international scholarship, funded by the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organizations, [1] that enables foreign students to study at universities in the United Kingdom.
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK government's international awards scheme, founded in 1983 to develop global leaders. While the programme takes its name from the house, the Chevening Secretariat administers the awards on behalf of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The Trust also supports scholarships through partnerships with the Hualan Education Group and Chevening UK and with individual Oxford Colleges including Hertford College, Keble College, Lincoln College, Mansfield College, [8] St Antony's College, St Edmund Hall, Trinity College, and Worcester College.

The plan was originally proposed by Canadian statesman Sidney Earle Smith in a speech in Montreal on 1 September 1958 [1] and was established in 1959, at the first Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM) held in Oxford, Great Britain.
