Field house or fieldhouse is an American English term for an indoor sports arena or stadium, mostly used for college basketball, volleyball, or ice hockey, or a support building for various adjacent sports fields, e.g. locker room, team room, coaches' offices, etc. The term dates from the 1890s.
The basketball team first played in the Fieldhouse for the 1928–29 season. [4] It served as the state of Indiana's first true basketball stadium and was considered one of the classic venues in college basketball during its time. The Fieldhouse could seat up to 8,000 spectators and was later extended to seat 10,000.

The Indianapolis Ice of the International Hockey League played in the Coliseum from 1988 to 1994, and again from 1997 to 1999 when the Conseco Fieldhouse was under construction, winning the 1990 Turner Cup championship.
