Howden (/ ˈ h aʊ d ən /) is a market town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It lies in the Vale of York to the north of the M62 , on the A614 road about 16 miles (26 km) south-east of York and 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Goole , which lies across the River Ouse .
The council wanted to consolidate its activities at one location: [4] the site it selected was just north of Livingston town centre on the bank of the River Almond. [5] The building was designed by BDP in the Modern style, built by Laing O'Rourke with a steel frame and limestone cladding at a cost of £53 million, and was completed in July 2009.

It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-west of the market town of Howden and 8 miles south-west of the market town of Pocklington. It lies west of the B1228 road and east of the River Derwent. According to the 2011 UK census, the parish had a population of 388, [1] an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 355.
It is situated approximately 10 miles (16 km) west of Hull city centre and 13 miles (21 km) east of the market town of Howden. It lies 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the A63 road junction with the A1034 road. Howden Park is located immediately north of the town centre and adjoins Howden House, an 18th-century house which contains an arts centre and private housing. [69] The south western edge of the town centre is dominated by retail parks. Livingston's town centre also contains a large number of offices.
