It functions as an alternate access from Calgary to CrossIron Mills and Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. The roadway is named after the late Dwight McLellan, a Calgary businessman and real estate developer who envisioned the commercial and horse racetrack development, but died in 2008 prior to the start of construction.
