Sister Gertrud Leupi OSB before 1900. Gertrud Leupi OSB, (1 March 1825 – 26 March 1904) was a Swiss Benedictine and founder of monasteries.She founded the Maria Rickenbach Monastery, Switzerland, the Yankton Benedictine, South Dakota, and the Marienburg monastery, Wikon, Switzerland.
All four buildings (a church, convent, and two rectory houses) are wood-frame structures built between 1883 and 1910. The oldest building, the three-story convent school, was built in 1883, and is the mother site of the Benedictine Sisters in the state. It has a fire shoot attached to one of the upper floors to allowed escape in case of a fire.

The UCC was formed from the merger of those two bodies, which took place between 1957 and 1961.
