To a report from the University faculty committee and Brit Kirwan (the new University President at that time) in 1998, the Ohio State University decided to start the renovation of the Thompson Library at the very beginning of the 21st century. The renovation cost over $100 million with a two-year feasibility study and a three-year design phase.
